The denominationally-splintered Church has, for pragmatic reasons, compromised the simple truths of Jesus for a few thousand years now to preserve itself, its power, and its cultural expression and influence on society, all with the best intentions but at a gross overcomplication of what Jesus was trying to say.
The traditional Church (in its broadest definition) is a self-preservationist beast that requires unity, even at the expense of truth, to survive. And the church-fleeing truth seekers aren't drinking the Kool-Aid anymore, which is a death spiral for the majority of traditional churches. The statistics bear this out.
