Oh, I'm not putting my immoral opinion on God, or trying to correct God's morality, or excusing wickedness. Brutal circumstances in a brutal age may require brutal solutions. I'm putting the blame on theologians who misrepresent God using strange hermeneutics in an attempt to justify God's commanding of what appears to be genocide. God is logical and consistent. He doesn't bend his rules (Divine Command Theory) while holding us accountable to the same rules. There are better answers, and I believe your example is the better, more logical answer.
