I think in fundamentalist Christianity, the problem of contradictions mostly goes away if we allow the writers to be human, speaking from their ancient intellect, culture, and with flaws, just like us. When Christian’s claim the Bible is the perfect inerrant mouthpiece of God, then theologians box themselves into those weird corners you bring up. The archetypal points of those stories remain unchanged even if the story is a metaphor or allegory.
