…as still a masterpiece. It just meant that the years of misuse and dirt had made it unrecognizable. In the same way, our essence may be hidden as divine image-bearers — masterpieces — yet we never ceased to be so. To say otherwise is to make the grime (sin) the defining characteristic of the painting, not the artist’s handiwork.
