I can easily see how religion developed as a coping mechanism to reward us with a reason to continue living amidst the backdrop of primeval chaos. If life represented nothing more than a hellish existance of no hope, who would want to continue living? Likely, the human species would die off. I would not have said that 10 years ago from within my then deep evangelical dogma.
