Good article. I think the bible loses credibility when we over-literalize it. It doesn't matter if the universe, earth, and life were created in seven literal days. We exist. That does matter. While I have stepped away from the bible being inerrant, I believe the truths in the bible lead to a more socially organized society that cherishes the importance and sustainability of life. Others may find a different path, but biblical truths, metaphoric or literal, work better for me. By letting go of literalism, I'm also not obligated to cram square theological pegs into round evidential holes.
