Cognitive dissonance is a powerful force. You know the feeling if you are deconstructing and testing your biblical beliefs. I do. The word scary comes to mind. I believe the degree of discomfort one feels when their foundational beliefs are challenged is a direct measure of the soundness of those core beliefs, religious or otherwise.

I get the same pushback, but when I challenge them, they usually get quiet. Most people don't know what they believe.
